Triton
So this is the tank that could end up a shrimp tank. It is still in planning stages, but set up and waiting Louie
ShortGirl
I like that driftwood! Full of character. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Triton
Thanks, it's 4 small pieces I've gotten with a few tank deals I made, lots of places to hide and go up and over the wood
Soothing Shrimp
Nice and open. Great for selection in a shrimp tank.
Triton
Lol. What would a relatively cheap Tds meter be? I know we have some fairly high amounts in this area, but I also know a guy that is slowly breeding CRS (where I got my 6 from) that is doing it with tap water. Would ro water increase survival and breeding?
EricM
Look on amazon. there are some nice cheap TDS meters. I have a few of the purple ones I've been using for years. most shrimper use RO and we remineralize it ourselves. we do this so we are more in control of the water. with tap water you never know what you'll get each and every time you turn on the faucet. Triton
Quick question, I'm going to Vegas for 3 days, I have 6 crystal reds in a small hang on breeder box, box is half full with java moss. Will the shrimp be ok till I'm back? Or should I hope my fiancé will be ok trying to feed them
Soothing Shrimp
If you are concerned, feed just before you go. They will be fine though.
Triton
Ok awesome to know, trying to limit what she has to do, have it down to her just feeding all the tanks twice
Triton
Headed to Vegas today! Woot! Leaving my fish and shrimp in the care of my fiancé makes me nervous, but it's better than nothing I think I am going to start stalking all your threads and saving up for a CRS set up. From what I've seen il require the following: Ro unit and storage container Tds meter Gh/Kh test kit H4n prefilter guard Water additives Shrimp - probably will want to start with grade A or something around there... Maybe add some higher grades as I get more comfortable with them

Triton
pH is around 7.6, won't the ro unit reduce that though? Or would that have to be a ro/di unit?
Soothing Shrimp
Without a buffer, your water ph will swing allover. That's why people tend to use a special substrate to keep the ph low and stable.
Triton
Ah ok, dang. So add that to the list lol. I was hoping the pool filter sand would work
Soothing Shrimp
Inert is fine for neos. Not so great for CRS.
Triton
On average what do the shrimp substrates sell for? I know I haven't seen any local
Soothing Shrimp
I like UP sand, but that's $$$ and not avg price. I'll let other people answer this one.
octanejunkie
ADS aquasoil FTW, $40 a bag 100% RO is the way to go. Make sure your fiance tops off water too. More important than feeding. I just came back from 4 days in NY, fed before I left, had a neighbor do top-offs every other day. All was well upon my return. Sent while on the go... h4n
Ya your best bet is a ADA aquasoil.

OblongShrimp
ADA Aquasoil is what I use in my crystal and tiger tanks.
Triton
Sounds like aqua soil is the way to go, being that it will just be shrimp, how much do I need, I'm assuming for the standard two inches I'd need two bags, or would it be more
Triton
Hey Han, what are the bw bee balls used for? Are they food or a type of supplement?
