I use a lot of Repashy for my catfish and my RC shrimp and assassin snails love it (Soilent Green, Super Green, Morning Wood, Bottom Scratcher, etc.) The assassins even go for the vegetarian stuff. I don't do anything other than drop chunks of the stuff in the tank and they all converge on it.

I'm all for the technical stuff as an adjunct to fish keeping rather than the reverse. Besides, most of the technical gadgets are beyond my capabilities anyway

I also have often wondered why some people got involved in fish keeping since their real enthusiasm seems to be for highly technical *gadgets* rather than fish. There have been some journals (not on this site) where I kept wondering where the fish were when there was picture after picture of equipment. I had a folk music friend many years ago who divided the world into Scruggs pickers and Flatt pickers - creative/artistic vs. technical. (This might be in reverse as I honestly don't remember which was which!)

Technology doesn't always trump common sense!

Very good! I see it many times on various forums - Only 1 or 2 fish and, gee, why did they die. No research or knowledge beyond *they eat algae*.

I'll admit I did go the other direction with shrimp and got RCs. From 32 I think I now have 100s so they must be happy!

I guess I do too - all I've got are plecos! (BNs, Medusas, Blue-Fin, Clown, Rubberlip.) Well, I do have some albino BNs but they came from my brown BN parents so that was just a fluke!

That is discouraging! I think I'd better not buy anymore shrimp myself - I've been very lucky with only 1 purchase - 32 red cherry shrimp and after a few months there are so many that I can't count them; babies constantly!
